CLINTON, N.Y. — The Colby College men’s hockey team battled from behind all night before scoring three goals in the third period on the way to a 4-4 tie with Hamilton College in NESCAC play Friday night.
The Mules move to 7-9-2 overall and 6-6-2 in the conference, while Hamilton is 10-6-3 overall and 7-4-3 in league play.
Hamilton had three leads of two goals in the game only to see the Mules fight to tie the game. The Continentals led 2-0 after one period on goals by Thomas Williams and Joe Houk.
The Mules cut the lead in half when Chris Buonomo tallied at 5:24 of the second period off assists from Mike Doherty and Billy Crinnion. However, Hamilton went up by two goals again on the second goal by Houk at 11:33.
Karl Burns brought Colby to within one goal off passes from Wil Hartigan and Doherty just 1:28 into the third period. Hamilton, though, tallied 36 seconds later when Anthony Roberts scored at 2:04.
Colby defensemen Tom McGinn made it 4-3 when he scored 1:48 after Roberts’ goal off assists from Cory McGrath and Nick Kondiles. The Mules received another goal from a defensemen when Scott Harff tied the game for good from Jack Bartlett and Doherty’s third assist of the night at 7:31.
Colby goalie Cody McKinney started the second period and made 23 saves the rest of the way.
