WATERVILLE, Maine — The Colby College men’s hockey team moved to 7-1-1 over the past nine games as the Mules took a 4-2 victory over Wesleyan University on Friday night at Alfond Rink.
Colby is 9-9-2 overall after standing at 2-8-1 at one point in early January. The Mules move to 8-6-2 in the league, while Wesleyan fell to 7-9-3 overall and 6-8-1 in the league.
Wil Hartigan scored his 10th goal of the season to put Colby up first. The Mules made it 2-0 after one period when defensemen Scott Harff tallied on the power play at 13:22 of the opening period.
Spike Smigelski made it a 3-0 game at 12:15 of the second period for what seemed like a comfortable Mule lead.
Wesleyan fought back with a power play goal from Nik Tasiopoulos at 5:16 of the third period and Anthony DePietto scored just 2:17 later to make it a one-goal game.
Mike Doherty, Colby’s leading scorer with eight goals and 19 assists, clinched the game with just 4:52 to play.
Cody McKinney stopped 36 shots in goal to record his 37th career victory.
