MAINEiacs’ forward Etienne Brodeur continued his hot play as of late, netting his tenth goal of the season on 10/10/10 day. Unfortunately for Lewiston, it would not be enough, as Antonio Mastropietro played an incredible game. The Victoriaville netminder stopped 42 of the 44 shots he faced, and Yanni Gourde netted a pair of goals, as the Tigres picked up a 4-2 win in front of 1,992 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
Gourde was the story of the first period, as he picked up both of his goals to give the Tigres a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. The first goal came with an assist from Mickael Belanger at 13:34, and the second goal came 3:05 later, with Philip-Michael Devos and Francois Godin picking up the assists.
In the second period, the MAINEiacs drew even. At the 7:25 mark of the middle frame, Olivier Dame-Malka took a shot from the left point. Sam Henley got his stick on the shot, tipping it in past Mastropietro. Then, with 7:08 left in the period, Etienne Brodeur picked up the rebound of Stefan Fournier’s initial shot, slamming in the equalizer.
Less than two minutes into the third period, Victoriaville regained the lead, as Phillip Danault tallied his second goal in as many games. Approximately seven minutes later, Brandon Hynes added to the lead, netting his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Antonio Mastropietro earned the first star of the game, making 42 saves on 44 shots in the win for the Tigres. Andrey Makarov suffered the loss, stopping 23 of the 27 shots he faced.
The MAINEiacs are back in action on Wednesday night at 7:00, when they play host to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
